Timothy Hodges, LMT, JSCCI, CACI
Tim has worked in the field of physical rehabilitation since 1996. He has spent the last 16 years honing his skills in the clinical application of Fascial Counterstrain and the last 10 years designing and optimizing training programs renowned for producing highly-skilled practitioners. Tim has worked as an assistant instructor with the Jones Institute since 2004, where he earned his board level certification. He is one of two instructors certified by Brian Tuckey, PT to teach Fascial Counterstrain and has helped to develop many of the techniques used today. He continues to apply his expertise in the field through private treatment at Counterstrain Portland, developing the Counterstrain Academy mastery program curriculum and instruction manuals and through the mentorship of healthcare practitioners in the Counterstrain Academy, which now offers its mastery program training in multiple locations throughout the country.
Holly Christy, ND, LAc, CACI, JSCCI
Dr. Holly Christy earned her Bachelor of Science from the University of Washington, a Master of Acupuncture from Northwest Institute of Acupuncture & Oriental Medicine, and her Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine from Bastyr University where she is also clinical adjunct faculty. Dr. Christy is a member of a very small group of healthcare providers trained in the highly specialized technique of Fascial Counterstrain. In 2013 she completed a 2.5 year long Mastery level Internship with Tim Hodges, LMT, JSCCI. Tim has worked with Brian Tuckey, PT, JSCCI in expanding the methodology of Fascial Counterstrain to effectively restore function to all of the various fascial systems (lymphatic, venous, arterial, neural, visceral, myofascial and ligamentous). Holly has worked as a lead instructor for the Counterstrain Academy since 2014.
Chris Michels, MSPT, JSCC, CACI
Chris graduated with a Master’s Degree in Physical Therapy (MSPT) from New York Institute of Technology in 2000 and has been an avid learner of the healing arts ever since. From Chris’s first exposure to Counterstain, in 2006, he was immediately drawn to its gentle nature and power of the technique and set himself on the path to become certified. He earned his board level certification in 2012 from the Jones Institute and began his training with CSA Mastery Program in January 2014, completing the Mastery Program in November 2014. Chris taught his first course as a lead instructor for the Counterstrain Academy – Mastery Program in the fall of 2015. Since then, he has taught more than 10 CSA mastery courses including Visceral, Lymphatic/Venous, Arterial, and Nervous System Part 1.
Greg Zadow, PT, DPT, JSCCI, CACI
Greg Zadow, PT, DPT, JSCCI graduated from the University of South Australia in 1990 with a Bachelors of Applied Science in Physiotherapy and received a Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Rocky Mountain University of Health Professionals in 2005. Greg moved from his home town of Adelaide, Australia to the Pacific Northwest in 1992 committed to becoming a highly trained and skilled manual therapist. He has had over 2500 hours of continuing education in various fields of manual therapy and in 2011 became a Certified Counterstrain Practitioner. He completed the Counterstrain Academy Mastery Program in 2015 and in 2018/2019 was certified to teach Fascial Counterstrain for both the Jones Institute and the Counterstrain Academy.
Andrea Mohrle, MSPT, JSCC
Andrea graduated with a Master of Science in Physical Therapy (MSPT) from Pacific University in Oregon in 1997. After two years as a travelling therapist, she returned to the Pacific Northwest in 1999, and worked primarily in the outpatient orthopedic setting. It was during this time that Andrea was introduced to Fascial Counterstrain by a co-worker. In 2004 she earned her board certification through the Jones Institute (JSCC) and began assisting with courses taught through their organization. Wanting to further her expertise in this field, Andrea began taking courses through the Counterstrain Academy in 2015 and is currently practicing in the Counterstrain Portland, LLC clinic. She will complete the Counterstrain Academy Instructor Training Program in 2018.
Dwight “Ike” Anunciado, MSPT, JSCC
Ike Anunciado, MSPT, JSCC will complete the Counterstrain Academy Instructor Training Program in 2018. As the founder of 360 Physical Therapy, it has been Ike’s purpose in life to provide healing care to those who have been injured and are in pain. He approaches physical therapy through the lens of fascia and seeks to restore mobility & reduce pain through Fascial Counterstrain techniques. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Anatomy & Physiology and a Master of Science degree in Physical Therapy from Andrews University. He has completed extensive training in both Jones Strain Counterstrain and Fascial Counterstrain techniques and is board certified in Strain Counterstrain Techniques by the Jones Institute.
Kim Braun, PT, DPT, CACI, JCSS
Dr Kim Braun, PT, DPT, Doctor of Physical Therapy is the owner of St Raphael Holistic Center (office is located in Beaverton, OR) and Braun Therapy Staffing serving OR and southwest WA. Dr Braun uses the Fascial Counterstrain cranial scan to take a holistic approach to patient care and gives 110% to helping her clients achieve wellness and health. Dr Braun has been dedicated to Fascial Counterstrain due to the profound changes she has seen in cases of torticollis/plagiocephaly, acute sports injury recovery, autism, digestion issues, chronic pain, and concussions. Dr Braun earned her initial PT degree at the University of Iowa and completed the Doctorate in PT from St Scholastica. Dr Braun has 30+ years of clinical experience and began on her education in Counterstrain in 2003 with the Jones Institute and joined the Counterstrain Academy led by Tim Hodges, LMT, JSCCI, CACI , in 2014 to master the Fascial Counterstain techniques developed by Brian Tuckey PT, OCS, JSCCI. Dr Braun is grateful for the opportunity to join ranks with other highly qualified Fascial Counterstrainers and is eager to spread the knowledge to other healthcare workers to provide high quality healing throughout the country and world.
Deanna Dreier, PT
Deanna graduated with her B.A. in Elementary Education in 1995, taught middle school for 3 years and then returned to school, graduating with her DPT from the University of Puget Sound in 2003. While in PT School she had amazing mentors in manual therapy and women’s health. Their mentorship combined with a strong belief in the power of education, led her to average 100+ hours/year in continuing education and introduced her to Classic Jones Strain/Counterstrain. After achieving her Certified Lymphedema Therapist status and taking classes on myofascial release techniques for the Visceral system she learned of new Counterstrain classes for the Lymphatic and Visceral systems and decided to add to her skill set. Shortly after taking the Visceral and Lymphatic 3-day courses she fell in love with the technique and began to participate in as many of 3-day courses as she could, as well as beginning the journey with Counterstrain Academy Mastery Program. Currently, she works in the Home Health setting and is in the process of establishing a small, cash based private practice.
Scott Dreben, MPT
Scott Dreben, MPT, the Founder of Touch of Life Physical Therapy, holds a Master’s degree in Physical Therapy from Chapman University. Scott went on to open his own practice with his wife, Deanna, in 2005. Touch of Life Physical Therapy was born. Since earning his Master’s in 1999, Scott has dedicated himself to enhancing his skills through continuing education coursework that emphasizes a comprehensive, holistic approach to treatment. For the past 10 years, Scott has focused primarily on the use of Fascial Counterstrain because of gentleness and the power of this comprehensive assessment and treatment system. Once he was exposed to Fascial Counterstrain he realized that he wanted to master this approach and decided to do so through the Counsterstrain Academy. Scott is a firm believer in the ever expanding knowledge that Physical Therapy has to offer and is committed to keeping pace with the newest research and professional techniques in his field. Further, he maintains an active professional dialogue with colleagues in related disciplines in order to ensure that his patients receive the highest, and most thorough, standard of care.
Willy Cherry, PT
Willy graduated from Fresno State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Therapy in 1989. His interest in body work started after a serious motorcycle injury in 1979. Recovering from his own injuries lead to a path that included various methods of body and energy work. He is the founder and co-owner of Function & Action Physical Therapy in Clovis CA since 1993. The introduction to Fascial Counterstrain in 2014 was inspiring, finally a system that has a clear diagnostic tool, interventions that provide practitioner and patient with immediate feedback, along with outcomes not obtainable with other approaches. A couple of hours of treatment by Tim Hodges provided more relief and change than any other form of treatment applied since his initial injury and cemented his resolve to learn, master and teach others this wonderful approach. The Counterstrain Academy was the obvious choice as the fastest path to mastery of this constantly evolving method.
Kellie Barnes, MOMT, MPT
Kellie Barnes MOMT, MPT is the founder of Core Physical Therapy LLC. She earned a bachelor’s degree in biology (1991) and a master’s degree in physical therapy (1993) at the University of Delaware. She moved to Portland, Oregon to complete post-graduate residency training in orthopedic manual therapy through the Ola Grimsby Institute. She received her master’s degree in orthopedic manual therapy in 1999, and passed her clinical and written exams for a doctorate degree in orthopedic manual therapy in 2005. Her introduction to Counterstrain began under Lawrence Jones, DO in 1994. However, Fascial Counterstrain (FCS), as developed by Brian Tuckey, PT, OCS, JSCCI, and her education from Tim Hodges LMT, JSCCI, CACI and the Counterstrain Academy had the most influence on her practice. In 2019 she was honored to be invited to participate in the instructor training program for the Counterstrain Academy. Kellie is passionate about treating clients with complex presentations including TBI/concussion, and those with Lyme and other co-infections. She uses FCS to navigate these complex presentations while supporting clients in their healing. Kellie is grateful for the evolving work of FCS, and its gentle but effective results that allow clients to achieve wellness each day.
Laura Pederson, LMT, PTA, JSCC
Laura was introduced to Counterstrain at a young age from repeated sports injuries. By the age of seventeen, she was working in a physical therapy clinic and was fortunate enough to work with amazing manual therapists that have shaped the therapist she has become today. Laura moved to The Columbia River Gorge in 1994 and started her career as a physical therapist assistant. She focused her career and continuing education on manual therapy, specifically osteopathic techniques. Laura has always been drawn to their holistic approach to the body. Her Counterstrain journey with The Jones Institute started in 1996 which has been a wonderful and fulfilling experience which she continues today with a focus on Fascial Counterstrain. In 2012, Laura earned her Board Certification in Strain & Counterstrain from The Jones Institute (JSCC). She decided it was time to transition from physical therapy to an independent Counterstrain practice under a massage therapy license received in 2013. Her passion for Counterstrain and hunger for learning led her to the Counterstrain Academy in 2014. Laura has completed all modules offered by the Counterstrain Academy and joined the Instructor Training Program in 2019. Fascial Counterstrain is a technique Laura has personally benefited from, truly believes in, and loves to work with. She feels blessed to be able to share it with you.
Loretta Bliss, LMT
Loretta started her Manual Therapy Journey as an LMT in 1992, being introduced to Counterstrain in 1995. Her desire to develop a strong skill set of effective techniques that treated all systems of the body drove her to pursue Counterstrain, resulting in a Fascial Counterstrain based practice. Loretta has completed all of the Fascial Counterstrain classes available to date from the Jone’s Institute: (Intro, Visceral, Vein / Lymphatic, Arterial, Nervous System 1, Nervous System 2, Musculoskeletal 1,Musculoskeletal 2). Keeping up on new information in these systems as well as attending any new classes are a critical part of her continuing education. She has also completed all 6 Mastery Program Modules and has joined the Instructors Training Program at Counterstrain Academy. Efficient and Accurate Cranial Scan Techniques and Treatment used in Counterstrain give each person the opportunity to receive a treatment that is specific to their body and their individual needs.
Rob Rosenberry, PT, DPT, OCS, JSCC
Rob completed his Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Therapy at Loma Linda University and then earned his Doctorate in Physical Therapy at Regis University in Denver Colorado. He became a board-certified Orthopedic Clinical Specialist (OCS) through the The American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties (ABPTS) in 2010. Additionally, he is an American Physical Therapy Association Credentialed Clinical Instructor (CCI). Rob began learning and practicing Strain Counterstrain 1984. He became Jones Strain Counterstrain Certified (JSCC) in 2005. Rob took his first Fascial Counterstrain course in 2008 and has since completed all of the Fascial Counterstrain courses with the Jones Institute up to and including Counterstrain for the Musculoskeletal System Part 2. To date, he has completed the Counterstrain Academy (CSA) coursework for Modules 1-5. He was selected to begin the Counterstrain Instructor Training Program in November 2018. He continues to pursue completion of all the CSA course work towards mastery.
Manny Kim, PT, DPT, PRC
Dr. Manny Kim, DPT, PRC is an integrative physical therapist and owner of K Integrative Physiotherapy, a private practice with locations in Maryland and Virginia. Manny received his Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine in 2010 and began his education into Counterstrain with the Jones Institute in 2011. Counterstrain was a paradigm shift for Manny resulting in a more holistic, systems-based approach to care. Manny believes the power and elegance of Counterstrain in unmatched in the rehab world. Steven Reiter, PT DPT
Dr. Steven E. Reiter, PT, DPT, is the owner of Manual Therapy of Williamson County: Wellness and Pain Management in Nolensville, TN. Steve has been taking Counterstrain courses since 2011, and since being introduced has been both personally and clinically amazed by the profound impact. He was diagnosed with Essential Hypertension in 2012 and was placed on four max dose meds which moderately controlled it. In 2018, he was treated by the creator of Fascial Counterstrain, Brian Tuckey PT, OCS, JSCCI, and has since been medication free. Steve is so excited to be involved with teaching future Counterstrainers and impacting so many lives.
Lory Yeh, DPT, OCS, LAc
Lory’s introduction to Counterstrain started before attending graduate school. She observed the quick and positive impact of Counterstrain on patient’s symptoms while assisting at a rehabilitation facility. This was the motivation to earning her DPT at University of Southern California in 2009. She immediately went on to receive a Master of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine from South Baylor University in 2012. She has completed all of the current Fascial Counterstrain courses through the Jones Institute and utilizes this technique as the foundation of her practice at InBalance AcuPT. Lory has a passion for understanding the human body and is constantly reaching towards perfecting her skills as a practitioner. Naturally, Lory continues on the path to mastering Counterstrain through Counterstrain Academy.
Miho Urisaka, PT, DPT, OCS
Miho Urisaka, PT, DPT, OCS received her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from the University of Southern California in 2009. She is board-certified in orthopedics by the American Physical Therapy Association and is the owner of Orthopedic Movement Physical Therapy in New York City, where she works with a wide range of patients from performing artists and athletes to those with chronic pain. Dr. Urisaka fell in love with Counterstrain when she recognized that it not only could help with difficult orthopedic cases, but also helped her patients achieve improved health through better sleep, by reducing brain fog, and alleviating digestive dysfunctions. She has a passion for discovering the intricate connections of the organs and other fascial structures that are typically overlooked in conventional musculoskeletal treatments.
Jonathan Eng, DPT, CSCS
Jonathan Eng, PT, DPT, CSCS, graduated from Boston College with a BA in Economics in 2001 and earned his Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Pacific University in 2013. His 20+ years of coaching, racing, and strength & conditioning experience, extensive background in athletics and movement science compliment his clinical skills in orthopedic manual therapy and Fascial Counterstrain. He credits his success as a sports physio to the integration of Counterstrain into his practice. Professional and recreational athletes alike benefit from the subtle indirect treatment method Counterstrain provides, allowing athletes to restore balance to tissues and physiologic systems, to go on and perform at their best. He is excited for the opportunity to share the awesomeness of Counterstrain as a member of the Instructor Training Program. Jonathan’s practice is the on-site physio for Adidas North America in Portland, OR.
David Disselbrett, MSPT, JSCC
David Disselbrett graduated in 1995 and has been working in an outpatient orthopedic setting for over 20 years. He has taken several physical therapy residency programs in manual therapy. Previous course work was more direct in nature and had failings in some of the chronic patient presentations. This led him to the more subtle nature of Counterstrain. David received his Jones Institute Certification in Strain and Counterstain. From there he has studied with the Counterstrain Academy emphasizing Fascial Counterstrain. It has allowed him to open a clinic in Anchorage, Alaska specializing in Counterstrain. David has found Counterstrain to be the single most powerful manual therapy technique. Previously untreatable conditions are now easily recognized and meaningful treatments given. Difficult patient presentations are now a specialty. David has enrolled in the Teacher Training Program and plans to make Counterstrain ad hallmark of his next 20 years of practice.
