Dr. Keely Bowen earned her Bachelor of Science from Eastern Washington University and her Doctor of Physical Therapy from Sacred Heart University in Connecticut. Keely has been a practicing physical therapist since 2008. She is a member of a very small group of healthcare providers trained in the highly specialized technique of Fascial Counterstrain. In 2014 she began studying counterstrain techniques and now uses it as a primary treatment intervention for patients of all ages.
I started as PT since 2010, then jumped into the Counterstrain in 2011 and became certified in 2015. From back then, I went through all the courses again and again.
It’s been 4 years now that I’m an exclusive Fascial Counterstrain Practitioner in the east of the France, very close from Geneva (Switzerland).
I wish to expand Fascial Counterstrain in France. In order to do so, I became an FCS instructor for France in 2018. We started with 1 course per year, now we teach 10 per year. Amazing growing, with a lot of dedicated practicioners. That’s heartwarming.
This work changed my whole life for the best and I’m happy to bring it to everyone!

Since graduating in 2016 as a Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) from Green River College in Auburn, WA, I have been exposing clients to the world of Facial Counterstrain (FCS). I have always been drawn to the manual portion of physical therapy. After my first experience witnessing the effectiveness that FCS provides, I said to myself, “I have to learn this!” and never turned back. Chronic pain complexity and other “odd” presentations that doctors struggle to provide answers for is a welcome challenge. I have a genuine interest in helping each individual as a person, not a number. Also, I love working with all age groups from pediatrics to geriatrics, catering to their specific needs to unlock their pain puzzle. Many clients are intrigued with the speed of recovery and lasting results that comes from the gentle movements and/or compressions of FCS. This consistent exposure of success has inspired me to continue advancement in education, immersing myself more in FCS. Among all the specialty techniques that blend into my tool box, Fascial Counterstrain has proven to be the most effective and rewarding.
Over the years, my goal to provide the highest quality of care was progressively being limited by insurance companies. To allow freedom of specialized treatment, I decided to return to school for additional licensure. Graduating from the International Institute of Massage Therapy in Idaho Falls, ID, 2025 with Licensed Massage Therapist (LMT) credentials; I now have zero restrictions and will forever continue learning through the Jones Institute and my clients. I believe everyone has the right to live as pain free as possible and personally strive for clients to reach that goal.
Cristina Shupe PT completed her Bachelor of Science in Nutrition with a specialty in Dietetics at the University of Arizona and her Masters in Physical Therapy at the University of St. Augustine’s Institute of Physical Therapy. She has been practicing physical therapy for over 25 years.
Cristina began studying Strain Counterstrain (SCS) in 2003 through the Jones Institute and expanded her training to Fascial Counterstrain (FCS) in 2016. Since then, she has continued to pursue completion of the entire FSC and Counterstrain Academy Module Curriculum towards mastery.
She now uses FCS nearly exclusively because it has transformed her practice. Witnessing its remarkable ability to help patients with unresolved and complex health issues inspired her to focus solely on this method. She has committed herself to advancing her expertise through ongoing education in Fascial Counterstrain, as its comprehensive and holistic approach has consistently delivered some of the best results she has seen throughout her career.
“Counterstrain profoundly changed my life, strengthening my commitment and enthusiasm for helping others through this incredible technique. It’s a breakthrough for healing and well-being, offering a powerful, lasting way to relieve pain and restore function. By addressing the root causes of dysfunction.”
